Baby-Led Weaning Meals and Snacks

Baby-Led Weaning Meals and Snacks: Easy Recipes for Busy Families

As a family and baby photographer, I often hear from parents about all the joys and challenges of raising little ones. One topic that frequently comes up is baby-led weaning (BLW) and how to make it work for busy schedules. BLW encourages your baby to explore different tastes and textures while building independence during mealtime. But what do you do when life is hectic and you need quick, nutritious (and exciting) meal/snack ideas?

Today, I’m sharing three simple baby-led weaning recipes that are not only quick to make but also loved by those little hands and tummies! Plus, be sure to download my FREE 30 Baby-Led Weaning Recipe Cards at the end of this blog to keep meal planning super easy!

What Makes a Great BLW Meal or Snack?

When preparing meals for your little one, focus on:

  • Soft textures that are easy for babies to gum or mash.
  • Nutrient density to fuel your baby’s growth and development.
  • Simple, whole ingredients with minimal seasoning.
  • Finger-friendly sizes so your baby can grasp and feed themselves. These considerations make baby-led weaning easy and enjoyable.

With that in mind, try out these recipes below!

Spinach and Cheese Muffins

These savoury muffins are perfect for breakfast or as a midday snack. Packed with protein and iron-rich spinach, they’re as healthy as they are delicious.

These muffins also freeze well, so you can batch-cook and reheat when needed! Just mix spinach, grated cheese, egg, milk, and a little bit of flour, pour into a muffin tin, and bake. You’ll have a snack ready in 20 minutes, which is great for baby weaning.

Pear and Oat Slices

Pear and oat slices are soft and naturally sweet, making them a fantastic snack or dessert for babies and toddlers. They’re also loaded with fibre and have no added sugar.

Combine mashed ripe pear, oats, an egg, and a pinch of cinnamon. Bake, then cut into slices—you’re done! These are also great for on-the-go snacking during baby-led weaning.

Mini Veggie Quesadillas

For lunch or dinner, mini veggie quesadillas are fab.

Fill a soft tortilla with whatever veggies you have on hand, fold, toast in a pan, and cut into baby-friendly wedges. Your little one will love them during baby-led weaning.
